We wish there was a simple way to communicate things to your dog. It’d make life so much easier, wouldn’t it?

“Please don’t jump on strangers, they don’t appreciate it.”

“Get off the couch please, your fur is a nightmare to clean up.”

“Hey, don’t eat that dead mouse because it’ll cost me $500 to get your tummy pumped out at the vet.”

Instead, we have the next best thing: training.

We rely on dog training for every aspect of our relationship with our dog, from how they eat their food to where they go to the toilet.

So it’s no wonder why training is one of the most essential parts of an effective Hidden Fence dog containment system.

Without training, it simply won’t work for your dog. Let’s discuss why it’s so important for your dog to get proper training for a Hidden Fence system, and how long it may take:

Training makes your dog understand the system

Like we said, we wish it were as simple as telling your dog: don’t go beyond that boundary because we’re scared you’ll get lost or hurt! But we can’t communicate with our dogs that way, which is why training your dog to recognise the Hidden Fence system is the best thing we’ve got.

Hidden Fences aren’t naturally an easy thing for a dog to understand right off the bat. But with our simple training methods, we’ve developed a dog containment system that results in 99% effectiveness for all dogs, regardless of breed or age over 16 weeks old.

What does the training process look like?

While professional training is available, you may also opt to train your dog to the Hidden Fence on your own. In that case, we urge you to read our article on Hidden Fence dog training. The training process involves using training flags to create a visual boundary, familiarising your dog with the perimeter, testing your dog and allowing for corrections. An audible tone will also emit from the receiver collar at the same location as the flags and whilst the flags work initially that audible tone will be lasting memory that will keep your pooch safe at home. Each session usually lasts only 10- 15 minutes in length, and includes 5 minutes of fun play to create a positive association with Hidden Fence training.

How long does it take?

Each dog is different but some dogs can understand the flag system by the second or third training session, (1 – 2 days).  They will tell you by their body language that they’ve “got it”, you just need to watch for it.  Most dogs will have it nailed within 24 – 72 hours and will be conditioned in around two-theree weeks.  The flags are slowly removed removed over a 6-week period just be sure they fully understand the Hidden Fence system.

The best way to get your dog up-to-speed with his or her new Hidden Fence is to let the professionals at Hidden Fence Central Coast and Hunter conduct a Flag ‘n Train session with you and your dog/s. Not only do we install professional-grade fencing systems, we also train you and your dog/s so that you and they are completely comfortable with their new Hidden Fence.
